Kylie Minogue's Music Video Visualisers

Silvertown Studios had the honour of welcoming renowned pop star Kylie Minogue to our Riverside Studio location! The basis of the shoot was to film visualisers for her new music video against an LED backdrop with changeable content.

During the shoot, the camera crew expressed how easy it is to work with an LED backdrop compared to the green screen they traditionally use. The biggest advantage they found was the ability to see the end result on the day and not having to spend a large amount of resources and budget on post-production.

The convenience of manipulating visual graphics on set makes filming with LED technology an incredibly desirable solution for creating engaging and dynamic music videos.

Advantages of Using LED Screens for Music Videos

Colour, Lighting and Visual Effects

For Kylie Minogue’s shoot the LED screens offered dynamic control over colour palettes, enabling seamless transitions between different hues and tones, this dramatically influenced the mood and aesthetic of the final music video. Unlike traditional methods, where lighting changes are dependent on physical light sources, our LED screens projected vibrant, customisable backgrounds that not only lit Kylie Minogue but also blended with or when needed contrasted against her. This ability to create and manipulate light directly from the background added depth and dimension to the visuals, making the scenes more immersive and visually striking.

Setting up the LED backdrop for this music video involved several technical aspects that required careful planning and precision to achieve the Director’s desired visual effect. In this specific setup, the LED screen was raised slightly on a stage, allowing for a seamless integration between Kylie Minogue and the backdrop, while enhancing the depth and perspective of the visuals. The screen dimensions, measuring 12 meters wide by 4.5 meters high, provided a large canvas for displaying compelling visuals, ensuring that the backdrop was prominent enough to create an immersive environment without overshadowing the artist. The slight 2.5-degree curve of the screen added a subtle wraparound effect, which enhanced the viewer's sense of being enveloped by the scene. This curvature helped in minimising distortion at the edges and created a more natural field of view, this was especially important for wide-angle shots where a flat screen might appear too rigid or artificial.
